How to Unlock Genshin's New Luna VIII Areas in Nod-Krai

Genshin Impact's Luna VIII update expands the Nod-Krai region with two new areas, and the first thing most players want is a clear path to actually reaching them. Alongside Dunanna Pit and Frost Moon, the update brings the first playable Fatui Harbinger, an entirely new elemental reaction, and a summer event. Maintenance begins July 1 at 06:00 (UTC+8) and takes roughly five hours. What follows covers how to unlock each new area, the Sandrone character, the Stellar-Conduct reaction, the compensation, the outfits, and the event schedule.
How Do You Unlock the New Nod-Krai Areas?
Luna VIII adds two areas to Nod-Krai, and each unlocks through a different path. Dunanna Pit is the easier of the two: a Teleport Waypoint near it, in the southwest of Nod-Krai's Misty Shoal, unlocks automatically for players who have reached Adventure Rank 20 and completed Archon Quest Prologue: Act III "Song of the Dragon and Freedom." If you already finished that quest, the waypoint appears after the update, and you receive its Primogem reward when it unlocks.
Frost Moon takes more work. It becomes available by progressing through the World Quest "Moon Gazing," which itself requires Adventure Rank 20 and the same Archon Quest. Once Frost Moon opens, two "Ancient Moon's Remnants" at "Nuur Stone Circle" and "Curtain-Form Blackbody Containment Lab" also become accessible. Accepting and completing the World Quests "Origin of the Sequence" and "Beneath the Lunar Sea" lets players use Luna Sigils to upgrade those Remnants.
There is a reward layer tied to full exploration too. After upgrading all six Meeting Points in Nod-Krai and both Ancient Moon's Remnants in Frost Moon to max level, players can spend Luna Sigils at the Voynich Guild's Souvenir Shop. New Fishing Points and Radiant Spincrystals also appear across the new areas, so clearing the region rewards thorough exploration rather than a quick sprint to the waypoints.
Who Is Sandrone and How Does She Play?
The headline new character is Sandrone, the Seventh of the Fatui Harbingers, known as "Marionette." She is a 5-star Cryo character who wields a Claymore, described as an elegant figure who interprets everything through the prism of mathematics and is never absent from a tea party.
In terms of playstyle, Sandrone is a Cryo damage dealer, but her defining trait is her team role. She enables her team to trigger Stellar-Conduct reactions and, under certain conditions, deals Stellar-Conduct damage directly through her own skills. Sitting at the center of the new reaction system makes her less a standalone DPS and more the axis a whole team composition is built around.
She also arrives with a dedicated new weapon, the 5-star Claymore "A Teaspoon of Transcendence." Equipping it substantially increases the character's ATK and Stellar-Conduct damage, and it comes from the event-exclusive Event Wish. Because the weapon scales the exact damage type Sandrone specializes in, pairing the two raises the ceiling of a reaction-focused build rather than just adding raw stats.
How Does the Stellar-Conduct Reaction Work?
Stellar-Conduct is the new reaction Luna VIII introduces, triggered when Cryo and Electro combine under certain conditions. When it fires, a Starlight Prism appears on the field and briefly turns the surrounding area into a Polestar Field. The reaction's real depth lives in that field mechanic rather than a single burst of damage.
Inside a Polestar Field, all characters gain a Cryo and Electro DMG bonus. When opponents are hit by Cryo or Electro attacks, the field stores the dissipating elemental energy and releases it completely every four seconds, which raises both the damage bonus and the base Stellar-Conduct damage coefficient for another four seconds, while also lowering opponents' Physical RES. Certain characters gain a "Radiance: Stellar-Conduct" effect inside the field that enhances specific talents.
What separates Stellar-Conduct from older reactions is that its damage can land critical hits. Traditional reaction damage cannot crit, but Stellar-Conduct counts toward crit calculations, which turns it from a passive bonus into a damage source players can actively build for. On a setup with high crit rate and crit damage, the reaction alone can account for a meaningful share of total output.
What New Team Archetype Does This Create?
The clearest shift Stellar-Conduct brings is a new team archetype built around Cryo and Electro together. Those two elements previously paired mostly for Superconduct, a limited effect that only reduced Physical RES; Stellar-Conduct ties the same duo into a far broader damage loop instead.
A player running a Cryo-and-Electro core can now treat the two elements as one connected system rather than separate damage sources. Sandrone triggers the reaction and opens the field, Electro characters keep feeding it, and the field periodically discharges the stored energy. The whole loop depends on keeping the field active and the Electro triggers consistent, which rewards a rotation built for uptime rather than one-off bursts.
The new Spiral Abyss season, live July 16, reinforces this directly. Floor 11 grants the whole party a Cryo and Electro DMG bonus, while Floor 12 sharply boosts Superconduct and Stellar-Conduct damage. Tuning the Ley Line Disorders around the new reaction is a clear signal steering players toward testing Stellar-Conduct compositions.
What Compensation and Outfits Does Luna VIII Include?
The update hands out two separate compensations totaling 600 Primogems. Maintenance Compensation is 300 Primogems (60 per hour the servers are down), and Issue Fix Compensation adds another 300. Both apply to Travelers who reached Adventure Rank 5 or above by July 1 at 06:00 (UTC+8), and the Issue Fix Compensation must be claimed by July 4 at 06:00 (UTC+8). Rewards arrive by in-game mail within five hours of maintenance ending, and the mail expires after 30 days.
Two new outfits arrive as well. Citlali's "Whispers of Stars and Smoke" goes on sale in the Character Outfit Shop at a limited-time discount through August 10 at 03:59; the price is 1,350 Genesis Crystals during the discount and reverts to 1,680 Genesis Crystals afterward, purchasable only once. Charlotte's "Hurlock Variations," by contrast, is earned for free through the limited-time "Sunny Summer Fontinalia" event during the version, then becomes a paid shop item once the version ends.
The version's main story also runs through the "Sunny Summer Fontinalia" quest chain, which unlocks once the event begins for players at Adventure Rank 20 who have completed the relevant Archon Quest. After the event ends, the Story Quest becomes permanently available to players at Adventure Rank 26 or higher. Claiming the free Charlotte outfit means taking part while the version is still live, since it leaves the free track afterward.
Which Other Systems and Events Are Worth Tracking?
Beyond the headline content, a few systems stand out. The new "Witch's Revelation" gameplay grants extra buffs to eligible characters after completing a Hexenzirkel guidance quest; Wriothesley, Yae Miko, Cyno, Yumemizuki Mizuki, Qiqi, Diona, and Beidou qualify, and each character needs to reach Level 70 first.
Imaginarium Theater's new season opens August 1 with required elements of Hydro, Electro, and Cryo. Opening characters include Yelan, Aino, Flins, Ororon, Skirk, and Layla, with special guest stars Arlecchino, Chevreuse, Kaedehara Kazuha, and Tighnari. Knowing the element requirements ahead of time lets players prepare the right roster before the season starts.
A new enemy, the "Precursor's Secret Source Matrix of Overseer Network," rounds out the combat additions. It uses Archaeolune Energy to start a Convergence Field and gathers Hydro to power itself; the counter is to freeze it at that moment and then use Shatter, Melt, and other reactions to break the ice and halt the field. Its design shows how thoroughly the new reaction system is woven into Luna VIII's combat rather than bolted on as a side feature.
